Where have you found hope along your path? How often do we miss what gives us hope because it is part of ALL we experience: the rocks, the hills, the meadows, the shore, the sky, the waves, the wind? If we can't see Hope right before our eyes, are we willing to look down, to find it somewhere deeper? Do we want it enough to break a fingernail prying it from its hiding place? When we are frantic, anxious, struggling, hope is a tool to balance and guide us. Eventually we'll realize that hope has changed from dull to bright, a treasure that we can share with others. The challenge then is to let go of hope: to fling it away, so that someone else who needs it will find it on their path. Hope is a jewel sitting
near the surface of struggle. We may discover it easily; delight in its presence; walk forward; feeling blessed that Hope chose this place we strayed. Who overlooks hope because it seems no different from the lawn, the sand, the weeds, the hedge, the stream, the hill, the sky? Hope might lie among stones along the path. When you see it, pry it from its place; drop it in a deep pocket. Every step will burnish it. When you reach for it again, Hope emerges as a star; too hot to hold; too bright to keep close. HEAVE HOPE out, up into a new place: the night, the dark, the pit, the distance that you never think you'll reach. Will you be surprised to learn that someone else may find it there and toss it back to you?
